Sybase Unveils Latest ASE at TechWave 2011 in Las Vegas

Managing very hefty data sets for the most demanding applications just got a lot easier. The newest version of Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) is now generally available, according to a Sybase announcement on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

That’s right. Las Vegas.

The Venetian in Las Vegas, to be precise. Sybase unveiled the latest in ASE at its annual TechWave conference, running at the resort all week.

Dependable database, steely poker faceCompetitive electronic trading requires a database system that scales the amount of users and data easily, economically and dependably. ASE 15.7 expands and contracts data automatically with compression algorithms in the database, using less disk space for the same amount of data and retrieving information up to four times faster.

“Sybase has made significant enhancements to optimize data storage and increase developer productivity in ASE 15.7,” IDC’s Carl Olofson said in a statement. Olofson is research vice president at the Framingham, Mass.-based global market intelligence provider. “These new features should strengthen ASE’s already impressive total cost of ownership.”

A truly cost-efficient relational database management system(RDBMS), Sybase ASE 15.7 enables top enterprises to handle more transactions and support more concurrent users without adding the cost of more disks and hardware. What’s more, this latest version allows existing Sybase ASE customers to easily adopt new features and optimizations without a database upgrade.

“A lot of IT organizations are reluctant to upgrade databases simply because of all the expense involved,” wrote Mike Vizard in his Tuesday blog post about ASE 15.7 for IT Business Edge. “The new release improves performance by adding support for a multi-threaded model that takes better advantage of multi-core processors, while also adding full support for SAP applications in the wake of the merger with SAP.”

Indeed Sybase designed ASE 15.7 to be the preferred database platform for SAP Business Suite, providing a powerful database system for the parent company’s customers. This week’s TechWave 2011 symposium is co-located with SAP TechEd 2011.
