Mobile Commerce Guide 2012: Lessons Learned

We’ve just released our Sybase Mobile Commerce Guide 2012. Get your complimentary copy here.

So much has changed in the mobile commerce space since we launched the 2011 guide last spring. Mobile technologies have matured. People are becoming more comfortable with making purchases with their phones. New devices are blurring the boundaries between “mobile” and “Web.” Most important, there are many more mobile financial deployments around the world—and even more in the works.

The Sybase Mobile Commerce Guide 2012 focuses on real-world implementations, with articles by industry leaders about their deployments and lessons learned along the way.

Contributors include banks (Banco Industrial, Citi, Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, RBS Citizens), operators (G-Xchange, Telefónica), and others, including IBM, the International Data Corporation (IDC), the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF), the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), TransferTo (an international remittance provider), the U.S. Department of Defense, VIVOtech (an NFC software an systems company), and many more.

My article, “Operator + Bank = Mobile Commerce,” expands on my earlier blog post “BYOB: Be Your Own Bank,” and discusses how banks and mobile operators are crossing over into each other’s territory in the rush to offer mobile commerce to consumers. Often, banks and operators can find common ground and cooperate. However, when partnerships are slow to develop or outright fail, we see enterprising banks acquiring or becoming mobile service providers, and operators applying for banking licenses.
