About Eric
Note: Eric has since moved on from Sybase, but his contributions are maintained here for posterity.
Eric Giguere (pronounced “jeeg-air”, c’est un nom français) joined Sybase as a software developer in 1993. Actually, he joined one of Sybase’s predecessor companies, Watcom Systems, based in Waterloo, Ontario. Watcom was purchased by Powersoft in 1994, and then Sybase purchased Powersoft in 1995. Eric was expecting a similar transaction in 1996, but apparently the trend stopped there, whew!
In his 15+ years at Sybase, Eric worked on a lot of different things, including:
- RFID solutions
- Email and calendaring for mobile devices
- Mobile and offline web browsing and application delivery
- Embedded databases
- Wireless application development and management
- Various rapid application development tools for Java, C++, and (oddly enough) REXX
Eric has written a number of technical books, including:
- Programming Interviews Exposed
- Mobile Information Device Profile for Java 2 Micro Edition
- Java 2 Micro Edition
- Palm Database Programming
He has also written numerous articles for magazines and various online publications. Much of Eric’s focus has been on software development for mobile devices.
Eric also runs some blogs besides this one, the most credible being The Unofficial AdSense Blog.
Feel free to visit Eric Giguere’s personal site for more boring details. Eric still lives in Waterloo, Ontario, where Sybase has a really nice building in the University of Waterloo Research + Technology Park.
