Thanks for your thoughts! The hampering for the banks and banking organisations in the year ahead will be urgent issues such as financial standards changes. These are being discussed during the impending seminar - Banking Transformation 2010. If it is welcome to post, please see the subject matter I have dealt with on http://is.gd/bk2mU.

And, by the way, here's another group of people who's vision is pretty much the same: http://www.finextra.com/news/fullstory.aspx?newsitemid=21168 And they have a bank and work in one of the markets that will be particularly responsive to the product.

The time has come for the 'digital cash'!

I would be glad to talk to you about this some day.

Diarmuid

This is the first article with a truely broad scope and deep understanding of the subject in YEARS. Congratulations, you are spot-on!

At the same time there are a couple of 'revolutions' that may happen in this domain IMHO and our team is experimenting with the technologies necessary for this to happen.

1. I think mobile devices will become the MAIN method for authentication (and maybe even 'identification') on the web. Enough of those log-in/password boxes already! In our experiments (for the particular niche industry of online games) it looks like this (working demo): http://yolto.com/Developers/Default.aspx

2. I think you underestimate how sick (I can not find another word) people are of those 'accounts', 'lasting relationships' with services that are designed to subscribe you at any cost and trap you (including the credit card companies of course). We think that the time has come for 'Cash 2.0' the digital bearer payment instruments circulating over the mobile channel. Here's our (very first) take on this subject: http://yolto.com/main/default.aspx?page=menutokens
Of course these Tokens as we call them will be used as a person uses a dollar bill, just by presenting it to any web-site (the web revolution is far from over, especially in the countries mentioned in your article). We've built this into our store that sells pre-paid products and delivers them instantly to mobile device in a text message http://apps.facebook.com/gamecards/ (as I said we are working in a very niche industry right now).

BTW, these Tokens bearing monetary value will solve the money transfer problem immediately. The problem (as always) is in the exposure, compliance and network effect. :) The rest is doable.

Anyways, thank you once again very much for this very deep and inspiring analysis of the present state of m finance and the trends.

Regards.

Diarmuid,

Hi, I am working on implementing Mobile Banking services in my bank. Grateful if you can share your articles so that I can ensure we are better prepared for the project and avoid any pitfalls which can lead to project failure.
