Do you have to change your thinking?

Over the last few years, with respect to mobility, I've always mentioned innovation as being a key deliverable and extending value, with the phrase… Don’t just extend - innovate!

Only after attending a recent Gartner event in London that covered the evolution of Enterprise Architectures and the impact of new delivery channels like mobility and being lucky enough to listen to a fantastic Keynote speaker (ASN), I realised that the way I was stating was correct, but many of us techie's fall into the a trap, without even realising it.

Make my SOA to go please!

Let’s review Service Oriented Architecture or SOA. SOA isn’t a vendor technology but an architectural style of distributed computing, whose approach is a methodology to help you improve the flexibility of your IT. Following the SOA architecture will eventually get you to the goal of having created services. Where each service interaction is self-contained, loosely coupled and each interaction is independent on any other interaction. Interactions in SOA are built around web-based standards that enable the communications of messages or data exchange, such as XML, SOAP & HTTP.

Mobile Star: 10 Times Over

Sybase has been named the winner of 10 Mobile Star Awards in MobileVillage's 2007 Mobile Readers Choice Awards program.

The program honors the best companies, products, deployments and leaders in mobile and wireless technology.

In my opinion, this shows the strength of our investment and effort in the Unwired Enterprise.

The road warrior’s mobile arsenal increases… the secret is now out!

At TechWave, I was thrilled to meet the folks who I have believed for a long while are the leaders and responsible for the coolest weapons in the road warriors mobile arsenal. Who am I talking of? Why HTC of course - one of our great sponsors this year. In fact, if TechWave were a Bond Movie (lets forget Jason Bourne for a while, as I’m British), HTC would be Q, the guy with all the neat gadgets that look so normal from the outside. That’s a good analogy for these HTC devices and I was lucky to be shown the fantastic line-up of hardware by James Wu, Senior Manager, HTC.

Now, when you load the Windows Mobile OS and Sybase products such as the award winning PocketBuilder, SQL Anywhere, MobiLink and OneBridge etc it’s like loading ammunition into your Walther PPK and you’re ready for the mission…The sky the limit!

TechWave 2007 is just about two weeks away

All of us in the TechWave Committee have been and are still, working hard to make your conference experience a great one. Check out the content we're putting together

We have an outstanding set of sponsors & exhibitors this year... check them out

I'm personally excited with regard to HTC. IMHO HTC are the #1 Windows Mobile device supplier, you only have to check out their website to see the amazing amount of devices they have created and each one pushes the realms of innovation for mobile devices. Then adding applications written with PocketBuilder... man that's a super package to get your Enterprise Apps on the road.

Check out more highlights at

Hope to see you at TechWave 2007... remember its not too late to book

SOA's Killer App

When I have presented at various events around the world I have always been asked, with respect to PocketBuilder and the MS Windows Mobile platform... What is the Killer App? For me, thats always been a simple question to answer. IMHO its been a combination of POOM (Pocket Outlook Object Model), Telephony (for WM Phone Edition devices), integrating Camera/Sound and GPS/Navigation etc..... My Insurance Assessor App would be it!

Send, Recieve and Change

Pick up any book or article on SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) and somewhere in the text will be a statement that SOA isn't about throwing away existing systems and redeveloping them, but integrating them into new SOA processes.
